Series Overview: Our Promoting Critical Thinking through Inquiry Based Learning is a four-session series in which we will explore different approaches to inquiry that will go beyond a collection of techniques or activities. Each session will focus on the key features of the inquiry based instructional methodology and on the development of new skills. While you are welcome to participate in individual sessions, you will achieve the greatest returns by completing the full series.

The four sessions include:

  1. Inquiry Based Learning for Science Instruction
  2. Implementing Engineering Practices in your Classroom
  3. Inquiry Based Learning for Mathematics Instruction
  4. Inquiry Based Learning Meets Writing

Session # 2: Implementing Engineering Practices in your Classroom

Description: What is engineering? What does it have to do with ABE and HSE? Why is it important in “STEM”? Thinking like an engineer develops transferable skills which learners can use in the workforce and in academics. In this workshop, participants will learn how to identify engineering skills in their current practice and how to deepen the integration of these skills into their instruction.

Audience: ABE, Pre-HSE and HSE Instructors
